Rangers Update: Adam Edstrom Day-to-Day and Conor Sheary Returns to Lineup
The New York Rangers faced off against the Dallas Stars on Tuesday night without forward Adam Edstrom, who is currently nursing a lower-body injury. Edstrom left practice early on Monday and is classified as day-to-day by the team.
Conor Sheary Steps In
With Edstrom sidelined, Conor Sheary made his much-anticipated return to the lineup for the first time since November 24. Sheary took his position on the left wing of the fourth line, joining teammates Sam Carrick and Taylor Raddysh.
Raddysh’s Status
Despite missing practice on Monday for personal reasons, Raddysh was able to suit up for the game, adding depth to the Rangers’ offensive lineup.
Brennan Othmann Recalled but Seated
In a strategic move, the Rangers called up Brennan Othmann from AHL Hartford to ensure they had adequate forward options. Head coach Mike Sullivan elaborated on the decision, noting:
"There’s a lot that goes into it. At the end of the day, it revolves around performance. I talk with Chris [Drury] constantly about that stuff. Otter has played pretty well most recently for Hartford, and so he’s going to become part of this group here."
Ultimately, Sullivan opted to play Sheary over Othmann, who watched the game from the press box.

Igor Shesterkin’s Standout Performance
Rangers goaltender Igor Shesterkin showcased impressive skills during the game against the Stars, stopping 23 of 25 shots on goal. This marks Shesterkin’s fifth consecutive game, contributing significantly to the Rangers’ successful 3-2 overtime win.
Goalie Changes
In a notable roster adjustment, the Rangers sent Dylan Garand back to Hartford and recalled goalie Spencer Martin to serve as Shesterkin’s backup. Sullivan stated:
"We don’t want anybody sitting on the sidelines too long. We want guys playing. Spencer’s a guy that we don’t have a lot of familiarity with. It gives us an opportunity to get to know him a bit."
The decision not only gives Martin valuable experience but also allows the coaching staff to assess him during practices.
Injury Report: Matt Rempe’s Progress
Unfortunately, forward Matt Rempe remains out of the lineup due to an upper-body injury, missing his 19th consecutive game. Sullivan updated fans on Rempe’s rehabilitation:
"He’s skating on a rehab schedule that our medical group has put together for him… Everybody’s encouraged with the progress he’s making."
Summary of Rangers’ Current Situation
- Adam Edstrom: Day-to-day with a lower-body injury.
- Conor Sheary: Back in the lineup after three healthy scratches.
