Blue Jays’ George Springer Returns for Crucial Game 6 of the World Series
A Bold Decision for Game 6
The Toronto Blue Jays made a significant decision by bringing back George Springer for Game 6 of the World Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers, just three days after he exited due to side discomfort from a swing. Springer, who resumed his leadoff role, was crucial for the Blue Jays, who had clinched Games 4 and 5 without him.
“There’s a certain urgency when the season could be down to just two games,” stated Blue Jays manager John Schneider. “Springer’s feedback over the last few days showed he was ready to go.”
Springer’s Postseason Impact
Springer has been a standout player this postseason. Notably:
- He delivered the game-winning three-run homer against the Seattle Mariners in Game 7 of the ALCS, helping secure the pennant for the Blue Jays.
- In the postseason, he entered Game 6 with an .884 OPS and four home runs, showcasing his offensive prowess.
Springer ended the night with two hits and an RBI, although the Blue Jays ultimately fell to the Dodgers 3-1.

Key Changes for the Dodgers
In contrast, the Dodgers also made strategic adjustments for Game 6. Manager Dave Roberts opted to start Miguel Rojas at second base, shifting Tommy Edman to center field. Rojas had not played in the series yet.
“I wanted Miggy in there; he’s been a glue guy for our club,” Roberts explained. “He injects intensity and energy into our lineup, especially on the defensive side.”
Mookie Betts Stages a Comeback
Mookie Betts, who has been struggling recently, was moved to the cleanup spot and was instrumental, hitting a two-run single in the third inning. His performance included:
- 1 hit in 2 at-bats
- 2 RBIs
Betts was supported in the lineup by Will Smith, who batted second and contributed an RBI, while Shohei Ohtani and Freddie Freeman were positioned just before him.
“It gives us opportunities for those key players to have more at-bats,” Roberts noted regarding his lineup strategy.

Schneider Reflects on Halloween
Before the game, Schneider shared a light-hearted moment about Halloween:
“I spent last Halloween sitting at my neighbor’s driveway, drinking a beer and giving out candy. This is way, way better,” he remarked.
He humorously added, “Halloween’s a made-up holiday anyway. I don’t dress up—I prefer to enjoy a couple of cold ones while laughing at the costumes.”
What’s Next for the Blue Jays?
As the Blue Jays look ahead, the stakes could not be higher. With the series now at a critical junction, every decision counts. Springer’s return and the team’s adjustments will play pivotal roles as they strive to extend their postseason run.
