Celebrating Victory: St. James-Smithtown Little League Returns Home as Champions
The St. James-Smithtown Little League team, also known as the Bulls, made a triumphant return to Long Island after an impressive season that saw them crowned New York state champions. Despite falling just short in the Metro regional final, the community showered the young athletes with love and appreciation during a grand parade on Sunday, August 10, 2025.
A Heroes’ Welcome
The celebration kicked off with fire trucks parading through the heart of Smithtown, starting from a local firehouse and making its way to Town Hall. As the Bulls rode in style, they were met with cheers from enthusiastic fans who had supported them throughout their journey.

Scott Santelli, the team’s manager, expressed gratitude for the community’s support. “This is a great way to go out. We put our towns on the map,” he remarked.
Community Pride
The Bulls’ achievement marked a milestone, as they became the first New York state champion from St. James-Smithtown. Although they faced a tough 12-1 loss against Connecticut’s Fairfield National in Bristol, their accomplishment resonated deeply with locals.
County Executive Ed Romaine highlighted the pride in the community, stating, “All of Suffolk County is proud of this team,” mentioning how fans traveled to support them even from afar. Local businesses showed their appreciation too, creating custom treats and promotional items in honor of the team.

Looking to the Future
Despite the bittersweet ending to their season, Santelli is optimistic about the future. “Hopefully this is the first of many,” he said, hinting at the promising talent in the pipeline.
A Moment to Cherish
As the celebrations unfolded, players were soaking in a “once-in-a-lifetime experience.” Many, including pitcher Kevin Moran, found themselves recognized by fans even outside of New York. “I think the visibility that this is going to give the town is going to help our Little League prosper and get bigger,” Santelli emphasized.
Jeremy Katz, who showcased his talents by winning the New York state home run derby, described the summer as a dream come true. His mother shared, “Everything that everybody’s been doing just to make them feel special and appreciated has been amazing.”
Emotional Farewell
The end of the season weighed heavily on Santelli, who has coached these boys since their early elementary years. But Sunday’s parade offered a heartfelt send-off. “I can guarantee you no other team has had a going-away party like our team has,” he reflected.
In addition to the celebratory parade, the team is slated for a final trip to Cooperstown for an end-of-summer tournament, a fitting conclusion to their season.
Community Support
The overwhelming support from the community left a lasting impression. “We’re going to remember this feeling of warmth and support forever,” Jodi Katz noted. The local pride demonstrated during this incredible journey has united the community and will be remembered for years to come.
