In breaking news this Sunday, a dual U.S. and German citizen, identified as Joseph Neumayer, has been arrested at John F. Kennedy International Airport in connection with an attempted firebombing of the U.S. Embassy branch office in Tel Aviv, Israel. The U.S. Department of Justice has confirmed the arrest via a post on social media platform X.
Neumayer’s arrest follows an unsealed complaint in the Eastern District of New York, which charges him with attempting to destroy the U.S. Embassy branch office using fire or explosives. After being deported by Israeli authorities, Neumayer made an initial court appearance before U.S. Magistrate Judge Peggy Kuo and has been ordered to be detained.
According to the details provided, Neumayer arrived in Israel on April 2025 and on May 19th was seen near the U.S. Embassy with a dark-colored backpack. Reports indicate that he approached an embassy guard without provocation and, while being detained, attempted to flee, leaving his backpack behind. A search of the backpack revealed three rudimentary incendiary devices, commonly known as Molotov cocktails.
Law enforcement tracked Neumayer to his hotel, where he was arrested. Social media posts linked to him also raised alarms with authorities earlier on the same day, with disturbing content that included threats against former President Trump. U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi commented on the seriousness of the charges, underscoring the government’s stance against violent behavior targeting Americans and highlighting intentions to prosecute Neumayer to the fullest extent of the law.
FBI Director Kash Patel remarked on the incident, stating that such violent conduct will not be tolerated, whether at home or abroad. If convicted, Neumayer faces a substantial prison sentence, with a minimum of five years and a maximum of twenty years.
As details continue to unfold, the investigation remains ongoing, and authorities are working to ensure justice is served. We will keep you updated with the latest developments in this story.
